One year ago on August 26th 2011 this blog was born! Happy first birthday, blog!!
SO much has happened in the past year, and I am happy to have the majority of it documented through blogging. Its fun to look back and remember things we did or places we went that I might have forgotten about otherwise.
I really did not intend to keep up with this blogging thing for a full year & I appreciate everyone who reads along. Most of the time I know I don't have anything interest to say; but you guys keep coming back for more! I've also gotten to know some cool people through blogging and follow along with other people as well. It really is such a cool experience.
If you're new around these parts, here are my 5 most popular posts. Have a read, catch up, and again; thanks for being here :)
We have less than 4 months before we are set to move back home.
That is both stressful and exciting and scary all at the same time!
I'm already planning all the trips I want to take once we are back in the northeast. I found megabus tickets from Philly to NYC for $7 a pop. Seriously?! Why did we not take advantage of this before??
Oh wait; we did.
When Kevin and I found out we were moving south we decided to take 1 last weekend trip. We caught the Megabus from Philly to Boston..in the middle of December.
This is what I remember about that trip;
Frigid I tell you. Frigid.
We also stayed at an MIT frat house..on a Saturday night.
Where we crazy?!
So yeah. Megabus is awesome..maybe in the Spring.. maybe with a hotel.
I've also been looking at apartments online and starting to figure out the logistics of the move. Moving across the country requires a lot of work. It's crazy how quickly we forgot that.
Kevin has also been working like a busy bee on his school things; trying to make sure he'll finish on time. He's also been emailing people and companies looking for a job for once we move. He's a little stressed, but I know its all going to come together.
I had to work all day this past Saturday, so having a relaxing Sunday was especially nice. Kevin and I went to church, and then out to lunch just the two of us. This rarely happens, because we usually go to lunch with friends. But it was nice to have some time alone and eat good food!
We spent the evening at home watching a Steelers pre-season game (we won!). Watching football on TV is a sweet reminder that Fall is just around the corner. I'm already getting excited for scarves & hot cocoa, and super excited about the fact that I bought a cardigan today!
Yeah- I'm that old lady.
Oh, and sorry for the abundance of puppy pictures. I'm also that annoying lady who treats her dogs like children. Who else would I buy that adorable mini Roethlisberger jersey for other than my Chihuahua?
My friend Stephen gave me the honor of my first ever blog award! Does that mean I actually have a legit blog now? .. I may have to step my game up.
No matter, because along with Stephens award came 11 facts I must write about myself and 11 questions he wrote for me.
1. My toenails are never not painted. They look naked without polish!
2. Friends is my favorite TV show. I have the 10 season box set on DVD.
3. We own hideous living room furniture. We bought it all off an old couple who were retiring to Florida on the cheap. Even though it's nice, its pretty terrible looking. Red couches with golden floral stitching. I'd post a picture if I wasn't so embarrassed :)
4.No one can ever tell me and my sisters apart.
5. I love sweet potatoes! Could eat one every day
6. I've been pretty obsessive about watching that TLC show Sister Wives lately. Yeah..that's embarrassing.
7. My only other guilty pleasure TV show is the Bachelor/Bachelorette. I got obsessed this past season with Emily. Yeah, I picked Jef (one F) after about 4 weeks and even though the show ended months ago I'm still obsessing over this cute couple. Seriously! I told my co-workers the other day; "Sometimes I find myself wondering what Jef and Emily are doing right now.." They just stared awkwardly at me. Rightly so.
8. I'm sorry #7 was so long and terrible. I'm embarrassed. But not enough to change it.
9. I've never had a cavity! Thanks, Dad for the good teeth.
10. My favorite household chore is vacuuming & my least favorite is scooping the liter box.
11. Kevin has gotten me to try a lot of new foods since we've been married, and now going out for sushi is one of my favorite dates!
Ok, and now on to the questions Stephen asked me to answer.
Are you bored with me yet?
1. What is the least used appliance in your kitchen?
Such a funny question! Probably our toaster oven.. I don't use that enough.
2. What is your favourite part of your home-town?
My hometown is Gettysburg PA, and I didn't learn to appreciate it until I moved away. I love the history surrounding Gettysburg. I used to work in the oldest house in Gettysburg (built in 1776!) that was renovated into a restaurant. Very cool stuff.
3. Favorite flavour of ice cream?
Any and all. I'm not picky :)
4. What made you want to start blogging?
I used to work at a job where I sat behind a desk for 40hrs a week. I got bored a lot and found myself reading a few blogs here and there. I guess I thought I'd just jump in and join them! It's also a great way for us to keep our far away friends up to date on life.
5. Favourite Fall activity?
Fall is my favorite season! I love it so much. Lets see, hot apple cider, boots, scarves, crunching on leaves, and hot stew are a few of my favorites in Fall.
6. Favourite place to curl up with a good book?
There's something about reading in a bookstore. I think it's being surrounded with a bunch of other books, but also a hot beverage doesn't hurt the situation.
7. Best movie ever?
Yikes! There are so many movies that I love love LOVE! I'd have to say my favorite that I can watch without fail is The Lion King. My mom took me and my sister to see it in the drive ins when it first opened. Then I got to see Lion King on Broadway in New York when I was in high school. It was beyond incredible!!
8. Vanilla or Chocolate?
Chocolate. All. The. Way!
9. Dogs or Cats?
I used to say neither! But I have become more of an animal person. I have to say dogs over cats. I love our cat, but I feel like she's the only cool one out there. In general dogs are cooler.
My main source of music is Pandora. Right now I love the Chris Quilala station for worship or Florence and the Machine.
So I hope this wasn't the worst post you've ever read! I feel quite boring answering questions about myself. But thanks again, Stephen for the award! I am honored to anyone who reads this 'ole thing :)
Hope you all are having a great weekend!
Oh- PS! If you haven't yet, I'd love for you to go 'like' my new Facebook page!
Last night we had a spontaneous game night with friends. If you ever want to act a complete fool in front of those around you, simply bust out the board game Cranium. My team kept getting cards like beer belly, pooper scooper, and (as you'll see below) sloppy joe. Very classy.
But no need for me to describe it for you, because we took video!
And seriously; does that sound like Grease Lightening to anyone out there? Because even playing it back I don't hear it. Oh well, nice try Kev :)
This week I caught a nasty bug from a co-worker. I don't blame her at all, because she was very good about sanitizing everything in her path- but it got to me anyway.
One of the worst situations I find myself in is calling in sick. Whether its work, school, or even a birthday party. I guess I feel like people won't believe that I really feel that bad. So Thursday I really should have called in sick, but against my better judgment I went into work anyway. Ever get that feeling where you wish you could rewind time & make a different decision? By 2:00 I was wishing I had just stayed in bed!
So my wonderful coworkers let me leave early so I could nip this thing in the bud. Some nutella toast, applesauce, about 45 tissues and 3 episodes of Dawsons Creek later, I was feeling a little better :)
Also many thanks to Kevin for running and getting me soup & robitussin.
He's a keeper, that one :)
So, yeah, not much productivity happening in these parts, but I was thankful for some rest and time to recoup. Having a quiet afternoon at home isn't the worst thing, ya know?
I'm looking forward to this weekend off work to spend time with Kev & make our first duo trip to the farmers market. Kevin has been going nearly every Saturday, but I can never drag myself out of bed early enough. I hope tomorrow will be the day to change that!
I feel like I've been out of touch with the world recently! What's up
with that? I've been a busy bee with work, new projects, and evening
cooking a yummy dinner for Kevin this week! (I know, hold the applause)
I bought this print a few months back from Naptime Diaries. I love all of her adorable prints on Etsy. They are very encouraging! But I fell in love with this one because it seemed to speak to exactly what I was going through at the time.
And your ears shall hear a word behind you saying This is the way, walk in it. When you turn to the right or when you turn the the left. Isaiah 30:21
I find myself in a very similar place now. I never know what will happen in the future. I'm not even sure what I'll eat for breakfast tomorrow! (out of cereal:)) But I love resting in the fact that God has directed my steps and He will continue to do so. In the big things & the small things too.
I find so much strength in that promise, & I hope you do too!
Enjoying time with my sister these past few days. Along with frozen yogurt, at home manicures, matching socks, and visits to the dog park. Definitely not looking forward to Friday when I have to drop her at the airport :(
