step by step, day by day

The other night I found myself writing about transitions.
Honestly, the first thing that pops into my head after hearing that word are those crazy glasses that 'transition' into shades when you're in the sun.
How creepy & futuristic, right?

Anywayyyys.. Kevin and I are approaching a few transitions in life.
(I wish I meant the glasses)
A big move is looming, along with (hopefully!) new jobs and new schools, a new apartment, new town, and maybe if we're lucky some new friends.

I'm a planner. I always like to know the next step.
But unfortunately knowing the next step is not always possible.
I'm learning that sometimes you just have to jump, and hope to figure it out

Scary, right?

But I read this the other day, when I was a bit stressed about things to come;
& it applies perfectly.

Every step on your life-journey can be a step of faith. Baby steps of trust are simple for you; you can take them with almost unconscious ease. Giant steps are another matter altogether: leaping across chasms in semi darkness, scaling cliffs of uncertainty, trudging through the valley of the shadow of death. These feats require sheer concentration, as well as utter commitment to God.
[Sarah Young]

So I'm left here, clinging to that hope.
And humming the Step by Step theme song..

We have been through transitions before (again, not the glasses).
And have made it out on the other side.
So more than anything this post is just a reminder for myself.
Even thought I can't see the other side right now, it's gonna be good.

silly pup

Can we all just agree that this is the cutest doggy picture of all time?!
I took this the other night while Kevin was sitting with Oscar on the couch. I kept looking at it on my phone & can't help but laugh each time. Oscar does this funny thing were he curls is upper lip and this picture just shows it perfectly :)

Anywho, thats all I have for ya today.
We are about to head out for a night with our youth group kids at church.
Hope you all are having a wonderful week!

retreat for 4

We're back from a weekend trip to the wilderness!
I really would consider it a retreat. Kevin and I along with 2 friends were able to take a step away from the busyness that is our lives for a few days. We replaced things like technology, crazy schedules & even other people for some time with God, each other, and mother nature.
It was quite refreshing, if I do say so, and I'm not a nature guru by any means! (showering with ice cold water and getting stung by a bee were my low points) But sometimes a long hike in the woods and dinner around a campfire does the soul good. I know it did mine.
But know we're back! To blogging, technology, schedules and work tomorrow.
Wish me luck! ;)

what I believe

I believe in..

I believe in Nutella..spread on anything.

I believe in karaoke machines, especially in public places.

I believe in alone time.

I believe breakfast for dinner. As often as possible.

I believe in watching a TV series from start to finish (FRIENDS, Arrested Development, The Office)

I believe in writing things down, even if they seem unimportant.

I believe in thrift stores, consignment shops & the good will.

I believe in thank you notes.

I believe in encouraging text messages (with plenty of emojis)

I believe in having a good smelling candle ready to light at a moments notice.

I believe in sneaking candy into a movie.

I believe that a big, ugly cry is necessary every now & then.

What do you believe in?

a bride, a groom, & a mastiff

Last weekend I took part in the most gorgeous wedding. It was truly beautiful, and so worth the 1,000 miles of travel (one way) for me to be there and witness it in person. My friend, Morgan was a stunning bride. Everything about that day showcased her style and personality perfectly.
It was fun, but elegant with a twist of country thrown in there (I wore cowboy boots!). Morgan gave me the job of walking her and the grooms pet dog down the aisle. I don't know about you, but when I think of a dog in a wedding I usually think of a white fluffy 10 pound puppy with flowers around its neck.
But for this wedding, this was not the case.
Their 'puppy' is a giant mastiff weighing in at about 90lbs! I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little nervous at the thought of this. But the dog, named Oakley, was perfect that day & stayed right by my side the whole time. She even occupied herself by chewing on a twig during the outside ceremony.
Quite a good dog, if I do say so myself.

Morgan, thank you for being such a wonderful friend through the years, and for letting me be a part of your special day. I cherish our friendship and wish only the best things for you and Scot.

I'm still alive!

Yes, alive & well! This 'ole blog has been a bit neglected from the flurry of the past week or so. But my trip home was utterly wonderful. I got to see my family, attend the most beautiful wedding (more pictures to come) and celebrate my birthday.

After catching a flight yesterday afternoon we got home very late last night- & a rainy Monday at work was a rough way to welcome me back. But now I'm snuggled up watching the hunger games (birthday what?) and listening to Kevin's commentary. That could be a blog post in itself!

skipping town

Wednesday morning at the crack of dawn I'll be boarding a plane & flying home!
One of my dearest friends is getting married this weekend, and she was sweet enough to ask to me to be in her wedding party. Kevin can't leave school for the trip, so my friend & co-worker here will be my travel companion over the next few days. She'll see Pennsylvania for the first time, and serve as my date to this wedding! What could be better? ;)
I'm also doubly excited about this trip because it falls over my birthday! It will be fun to celebrate with my family this year.
Now wish me luck-because birthday outfit/rehearsal dinner outfit/every other outfit must fit in my carry on bag, not to mention 4 pairs of shoes. (Because who wants to pay $50 to check a bag? Definitely not my stingy self)
& on a serious note, I'm so thankful for Kevin who is staying home to work on his thesis paper and take care of the puppies. What a sweetie. I'm gonna miss the crap out of him.

my old list of goals

The other night I pulled a random notebook off a shelve for a piece of paper. When I flipped it open this is what I found;
A list of goals I had written way back when, for the year 2011.
I quickly scanned the list (it had 8 things on it) and realized I had done all but one of them in 2011! The list included; Go on a missions trip with our church, which we did last Fall.. Also, to go home during the Summer, visit my old place of employment, decide on a definite career path, and work with kids somehow. All things I have done or decided on last year.
The only one on the list which I did not do in 2011 was go back to school. That is a little discouraging, but knowing that I am taking classes next semester almost makes up for it. It reminds me that everything will happen in its own time.
But finding this list makes me sad that I didn't write a list for 2012, and now with it being September it seems a little late to come up with goals.
However, something that I saw another blogger do really intrigued me and I think I might follow suit. She wrote a list of the things they wanted to do in the last few months before her and her husband moved back to the States from Hawaii. Ok, so we're not in Hawaii, but there are some cool things I want to do in Mississippi before we move back North in December. So be on the look out for a list thats bound to include things like BBQ, trips to Southern towns & maybe even a football game.
Have you ever written out yearly goals? I'd love to do it again for 2013 and hopefully accomplish everything on the list!
Happy Friday!

Sometimes, after a long Tuesday at work, I like to have a good laugh alone in front of my phone or computer.
(Doesn't everyone?)
And funny things are only good when shared, right? So- here ya go! Silly little things that are making me laugh tonight.
Over the weekend I discovered the best phone app of all time.
It takes a picture of 2 people and swaps their faces! Who are the genius' that come up with this stuff? It's called Face Juggler, and it's free!! I literally played on this for nearly an hour. Here are a few of my favorite face juggles;

Baby one is definitely my favorite!
Another favorite funny thing of mine are these ecards. They are so hysterical and so true!

And then, this. Because I laughed for a solid 10 minutes after I first found it.
That poor kid. He was probably just trying to act like Spider Man on that wall..
Hope you had a good laugh or too :)
Goodnight friends!!

life this week..

I seriously considered deleting my facbeook account. Living on the edge, ya know. (for the 90% of you who came here via facebook, you know I didn't have the nerve the carry through. Maybe next time.)

We got some rain & wind from good 'ole Isaac. Nothing too crazy, though.

My 18 year old sister got onto me for not being registered to vote in Mississippi. Oops..

We went to a fun surprise party for my boss.

We had to go to one of my least favorite places on the planet;the grocery store.

Kevin stocked up on donuts, soda, and nutter butter bars.
I wondered for the thousandth time how he's so skinny..

We had a concert night at church.

I took sneaky pictures while I probably should have been singing. Oops again..

And now it's Friday! Are the weeks running together for anyone else? Time seems to be going crazy fast for us. I'm thankful for these little snippets to help me remember things by.
