life lessons & chicken

While packing up the apartment the past few days I've been reflecting a lot on our time here. Living in the south for the past 2 years has been a great experience. Kevin and I have learned a lot about each other as well as about people in general. It has taught me many things that I hope to take with me long after we're gone. The 2 main things I could think of that I wish to take away from our time here are manners & friendliness.

Don't judge my parents too harshly, I did have manners before we moved here! But I never said things like 'yes ma'am, no sir' etc. The only time I heard people talk like that before were in the military. But here, manners like that are ingrained in even the youngest children. I still get picked on by my coworkers when I respond to a 'thank you' with 'yep!' instead of 'you're welcome.'  Maybe I can pick up on that one in the next week or 2 :)

I used to find it so weird that people here thought northerners were so rude & mean! But from living here, and visiting back home I have found that people up north aren't rude, but that people in the south are just so nice! It's so commonplace to say hello to a stranger, and be friendly to absolutely everyone which is not so much the case back home. Friendliness and hospitality are a huge part of the culture here, and I hope to take a little bit of that with me.

Also, I hope to take home my new found love of fried chicken. There are chicken places everywhere!-- and I am definitely miss that.

Hope you have a great weekend, friends!
