a cluttered mess

I thought I'd give ya a little peak at what my kitchen table has been looking like lately.
Papers, forms, & dead valentines day flowers galore!
Between school, getting a new job, tax season, & trying to move to another country it feels like all I do is fill out paperwork anymore. (definitely not complaining though, because all the things I just listed are super awesome).
So, sorry I've been a little scarce over here in blogland lately, but these forms aren't going to fill themselves out! (although, could someone please invent a machine to do that?)
I fell asleep watching the Oscars last night. Not because they were boring and terrible but because I was just that tired (or maybe old)
It did make me feel a bit old this year because I'd actually seen most of movies nominated. When I was younger I'd just watch the red carpet segment and then turn it off before the ceremony even started. Now I really wanted to see & cared about who won what. Funny how things like that change :)
Anywho, I did enjoy the first half of the show. Before my eyelids got heavy and I started to fade. Did you watch the Oscars this year?
Any favorite dresses/speeches/winners?

everyday happiness

//just little happenings and phone pictures from this week.
exploring my parents backyards/woodsy area with the dogs
a warm fireplace
kitty love
snow covered trees
a little patch of sunlight coming through the window

Is it crazy to anyone else that today is already Thursday? yikes! I keep reminding myself not to wish time away, but it's hard not to be stoked with how quick February is shuffling by.
And I am thankful! because by the end of February I feel like winter is just a rude guest who has overstayed their welcome.
bring on the flowers and sunshine and riding with the windows down, please & thankyou :)

that time I practiced self control

Nothing like a good iphone mirror picture selfie shot in the dressing room at target on a blog, am I right? I know I'm not the only one who wants to spend every cent in my bank account the second I walk into that place. (I can't be the only one?!)

I feel like lately I'm learning a lesson in self restraint. Which, to be totally honest, is much needed. Last year I worked in retail (something I never imagined I'd say). I learned a lot of great things during that time. But unfortunately, I think I also got spoiled. I'd come home with awesome new clothes every week, sometimes multiple times a week! Depending on our sales I could come home with $100 in merchandise a week, easy.

Fast forward to now; I'm a student who does jobs on the side here and there like babysitting and subbing at a preschool. They don't offer free merchandise because that's called kidnapping and its sort of frowned upon :(

So when I rode along to target last night and this adorable denim dress called out my name like a thousand angels singing of course I had to try it on!  It was love at first sight.
But standing there I kind of had an 'aha!' moment. I realized I couldn't buy this dress (hence my face in that picture). I don't need a $30 dress that can't even be worn for another 5-6 months. I don't need one more ball of material shoved in a drawer somewhere.

Is it adorable?
Heck to the YES.
Would I find somewhere to wear it?
But I really feel like God is making me re-think "stuff."
The difference between wants, desires & needs.

With a huge move approaching, we will only be able to take a few suitcases with us. Remember this post on simplifying? I'm really being made to put my money where my mouth is! It's not even about bargain shopping, because I've always been a deal hunter. But what's a great sale piece if you don't need it?
I think passing up on extra "stuff" is small trade off to the adventure we will be embarking on this year.
So the dress is back on the rack, my closet is just as cluttered as it was before, & I even learned something from the whole thing. Not too shabby if you ask me.

far & away

If you follow me on instagram/facebook you already know this big news!
It's true! And I figured I'd expand on our move overseas by filling you guys in on all the details.
Basically New Zealand has been on Kevin and I's radar for a couple of months now. Back when we were both still in Missisippi Kevin got an email about a PhD position at the University of Canterbury. It's in Christchurch NZ on the south island. To be honest, I didn't take the opportunity too seriously. That's not to say that I didn't think Kevin could get it, because he's practically the smartest guy ever. But I guess it just seemed a bit too out there, ya know?
So we decided to go ahead and apply for it (along with a bunch of other jobs/places; mind you) Right around Christmas we heard back that Kevin was their top pick and offered him the job.
Could I use my iPhone in NZ??
(Just a couple of things going through my head at the time.)
So after about 2 months of thinking, talking, praying & talking a lot more, we have reached our decision to accept the job & go. I can't begin to list all of the ways that this has lined up for us. It just seems like a puzzle coming together.
Right now, we are shooting to get over there sometime this summer, but a lot has to happen before then! We've just started on the visa process (and quite a process it is).
So I hope you'll follow us on this journey we are about to embark on! I'm really looking forward to having this space to document our time abroad and everything that happens along the way :)

what blog?

Things I've been doing besides blogging:

endless amounts of textbook reading
dreading valentines day away from Kev
hours and hours of Parenthood
job interviews
finding hidden treasures from my childhood (beanie babies galore!)
many cups of tea
singing karaoke
more laundry
scanning tax forms
figuring out how to use a scanner (only took 22 years)
and possibly a trip or two to Target :)

Sorry for the lack of posts! For awhile there I forgot about this poor blog. I'll try to do better, promise!

littlea this/littlea that

Could someone tell me just what exactly happened to January? Not really that I'm sad to see her go, but really? That was crazy fast.
The last week or two have been lots of school work & readings, skype convo's with Kevin, and enjoying some of the things posted above. It's been a bit exhausting, this ole week. Kevin and I have been forced to think about the future (such a drag, isn't it?) and make some big decisions. More on all that later though..
If you haven’t read Mindy Kaling's book & like to laugh so hard you make awkward noises in public, I'd recommend picking it up. If you're not a fan of making awkward noises in public you can always read it in the privacy of your home. It's just as funny either way, I promise.
And that sweet little arrow necklace? $3.50 at forever 21! Its just the cutest thing ever and I like to tell people it only cost $3.50. If you can buy an awesome necklace for the same price as 1 gallon of gas, I think it's a pretty obvious choice.

90's children

Today, I'm joining thriftary to share some childhood photos! Awkward/uncomfortable/and totally embarrassing. I nailed it, right? & since most of my childhood pictures include my sister, we can call this one sister edition.

From these 2 incredible pictures I realize some things about my childhood.
1. Extra large t-shirts seemed to be my go-to outfit of choice.
2. My sis and I really did have the exact same haircut (courtesy of Mom).
3. That thing on my head, if you can call it a 'bow', is terrible.
4. AND I can make eating a popsicle look super awkward.

On a side note, Morgan & I didn't really like to wear pants. But who does, really? If wearing a baggy t-shirt around everywhere with nothing underneath were socially acceptable don't you think the world might be a happier place?
I think so..
